Volunteers make the food bank run

We log over 14,000 volunteer hours each year and have 80 regular volunteers helping get food to folks each week. We could not do this work without volunteers!

Volunteer Opportunities

We typically need volunteer support during the following shift times. Most of our volunteers sign up for a recurring weekly shift, but you can also sign up to fill in as a substitute as needed.

  • Monday, Wednesday, Saturdays 8 - 12 PM

  • Tuesdays 7 - 10 AM

  • Thursdays and Fridays 9 - 2 PM

Apply

To get started as a volunteer with the Ferndale Food Bank, please fill out an application below. After you submit an application, you will receive an automated email confirming your submission. That email will also provide information on how you can get started on your onboarding process.

Once we receive your submission, we will review your availability and follow up with you within 5 business days to match you with an open position at the food bank. We will then schedule a time for you to come in for an in-person orientation at the food bank.

If you do not hear back from us within a week, please reach out to our Operations Manager, Kaiti, at operations@ferndalefoodbank.org.

Please Note:

  • Unaccompanied volunteer must be at least 16 years old. Any volunteers younger than that must start by having a parent or guardian on site with them for the first month of volunteer shifts. From there we can work with folks to decide the set up for everyone moving forward.

  • Almost all volunteer roles require some level of lifting, bending, or twisting. If you have any mobility or health restrictions please note that on your application.

  • All volunteer shifts must be pre-scheduled and confirmed in advanced with food bank staff.

  • We are particularly grateful for volunteers who speak languages in addition to English - particularly Spanish, Ukrainian, Russian, Farsi, or Dari!
